The WOODPECKER and the WOODPECKER Forest
The WOODPECKER is a user-friendly, non-destructive testing device designed to accurately assess the quality, density, and strenght of wooden objects. It helps detect potential decay caused by factors such as changes in humidity, mold, and termites. It provides measurements in millimetres (0-55 mm) for comparison with reference tables or technical documents to determine the density and quality of wood.Â
The Benefits
- Non-destructive testing: Maintain the integrity of the wood while assessing quality and load-bearing capacity
- Wear indicator on the striker pins for accurate measurements over time
- Minimal recoil and adjustable spring-loaded mechanism for reproducible measurements
- Suitable for testing various wooden structures
- Easy operation, even in demanding environments
- Resistant to water, moisture, soil, and dirt
- Cleaning after use is recommended
- Maintain accuracy with periodic recalibration
- Designed for safe use with proper precautions
- Includes all necessary accessories for efficient testing
Forest Management
Specialized striker pins for forest management tasks can be integrated into the WOODPECKER. Given the potential deterioration of wood quality due to accelerated tree growth, it is necessary to assess the effects of intensive management on wood formation and suitability for various applications.Â
- The test involves injecting a spring-loaded steel impact pin, including a black O-ring, into the wood. The tester is loaded first and then pressed firmly against the wood surface to be tested. When the red button is pressed, the striker pin will penetrate the wood. A scale on the pin itself indicates the penetration depth in millimetres, as well as the position of the O-ring on the pin. The penetration depth is also displayed on the screen. The measurements can be compared with reference tables from the protocol to obtain an indication of the density and quality of the wood. The impact pin is equipped with a wear indicator that signals when the pin needs to be replaced.
- The measurements can be compared with reference tables from the protocol to gain insight into the density and quality of the wood. The striker pin is equipped with a wear indicator to maintain accuracy. The wear indicator signals when the impact pin needs to be replaced.
- The WOODPECKER can test foundation piles, bridges, railways, utility poles, and wooden play/climbing equipment. Application areas for the WOODPECKER Forest model also include quality control for tree cultivation, forest management, and wood classification.
