Settlement Monitoring

High Precision in Settlement Monitoring with Profound's Digital IS-Liquid Level System

Profound’s closed liquid level system, the digital IS-Liquid Level System, is an effective tool for precision monitoring of settlement. Typical areas of application include monitoring under-tunneling and excavation work and compensating for elevations near structures. For example, the Profound system was applied during the installation of the fifth runway at Schiphol Airport to measure the settlements of sand embankments during construction preparation.

Sensors are selected for each project with the appropriate measurement range to ensure accurate settlement measurements: the elevation differences must remain within range, even after the expected settlements.

The measurement system very accurately and continuously records the pressure differences between the different measurement points and the reference point. These pressure differences are converted (based on the volume weight of water) into a height difference between the different measurement points and the reference point. The system immediately responds to settlements, since no liquid flows between the sensors. Each measurement is directly available digitally and the sensor automatically compensates for temperature.

Key Avantages:

Data handling

Using a wireless, built-in internet connection, the IS-module directly uploads to an FTP server or sends the measurement data at a preset interval via email to a pc for further processing. Thus providing an excellent opportunity to monitor the project remotely.

You can quickly and easily process, export or graphically display the measurement results on a web based platform, and you can customise the IS-system to your own needs

Operation

The wireless, built-in 4G/GPRS connection in the accompanying IS-Module enables remote monitoring. This Internet Solar IS-module is a combination of a power supply, data logger, and a 4G/GPRS modem, providing the data backup for the system.

Application

Typical applications include monitoring of settlements and pore pressures, as well as load monitoring, strain monitoring or displacement measurements (IPI’s or potentiometers).

Different types of measurements can easily be combined in one network, as each sensor (e.g. load, strain, or pressure sensor) has been equipped with the ‘Intelligent Sensor’ (IS) technology.
