Cost-effective method for determining the load bearing capacity of foundation piles

Statnamic is an innovative method for testing the load bearing capacity of foundation piles. Compared to static load testing: 90-95% less weight has to be loaded. Dependent upon the weight to be tested, Statnamic enables you to test up to 6 piles per day at much lower costs.

Statnamic pile testing is based upon launching a reaction mass. For catching the fall back of this reaction mass, Statnamic uses unique techniques based upon gravel and hydraulic systems. Profound has developed Statnamic together with Berminghammer Foundation Solutions.


  • Statnamic is accurate, cost-effective and fast in determining the load bearing capacity of foundation piles. Statnamic signals foundation problems as soft toe and losses of friction.
  • Applicable for testing foundation piles, batter piles as well as for any lateral load testing.
  • The software calculates the load-deflection behaviour and the capacity of the foundation piles in combination with the soil. Results are summarized in a static load-displacement diagram.
  • Statnamic has been tested hundreds of times. Results appeared to be similar to those of static and dynamic load tests.
  • Statnamic devices are available with different maximum loads. Available device loads are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 16, 20, 30 and 40 MN. The testing range is between 25% and 100% of the maximum device capacity.


  • Statnamic overcomes technical, economical and practical difficulties of testing larger loads on deep foundations.
  • Prompt pile testing: only 5% of the weight needed for static load testing has to be loaded. Up to 6 piles can be tested per day.
  • The duration of a Statnamic loading is substantially longer than the load produced by Dynamic Load Testing. With Statnamic Load Testing, a controlled pre-determined load is applied directly to the pile whereby the longer duration results in no tension forces.
  • Loading is perfectly axial. The slow build up and release of the forces eliminate tensile stresses. The pile and soil will be compressed as a single unit and the static load-displacement behavior of the pile is obtainable.
  • Tests can be reproduced.


Statnamic Load testing is performed in 4 stages. To prepare the test, the cylinder with pressure chamber is connected to the pile head and the reaction mass (only 5-10% of the load tested) is placed over the piston. The test starts with igniting the solid fuel propellant inside the pressure chamber, generating high-pressure gases and accelerating the reaction mass. At this moment, the actual loading of the pile takes place.

The space caused by the upward movement of the reaction mass will be filled by gravel. The gravel catches the reaction mass and transfers the impact forces to the subsoil.

The applied force, displacement and acceleration are directly monitored. All signals are measured by the Profound data acquisition system whereby the mobilized capacity and static load displacement behavior can immediately be presented in a load-displacement diagram.


The special Profound data acquisition software presents a 'Static Cyclic Load Displacement' diagram based upon the Statnamic measurements. This diagram clearly represents the load-deflection behavior and the capacity of the foundation.
